Yena Lee born in 1989 began studying violin at the age of 10 with Prof.Taras Gabora and Lawrie Hill.
She has won 1st and Grand Prize with numerous scholarships in many local and national competitions in Canada such as Kiwanis,
Richmond Music Festival, Korean Youth Music Competition, and Canadian Music Competition. For some of the competitions,
she was the youngest winner in the history and was rewarded the Most Promising Musician Award. In 2010,
she was a prize winner of the 6th Wolfgang Marschner International Competition for Violin and Viola in Hinterzarten, Germany.
She made an orchestra debut at the age of 14 and in same year she was awarded as Most Promising Musician from District
of British Columbia. Yena made solo performances with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, West Coast Symphony,
Vancouver Youth Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver Pilgrim Orchestra, Mainz Hochschule Orchester, Adrian Ensemble,
Mainzer Virtuosi Kammerorchester, and Neumeyer Consort. She was often concertmaster for orchestras and string chamber ensembles,
especially with the Mainzer Virtuosi Kammerorchester. Her performances were recorded and played on TV in Germany and in
Canadian radio stations. Yena gives solo and chamber music concerts throughout Canada, Germany, Italy, and England.
Since 2007 she studies with Prof. Anne Shih at the Hochschule fur Musik in Mainz. In September 2011, she has been accepted
to a Konzertexamen degree, Doctor of Musical Arts degree, with Prof. Shih. Yena uses one of world’s renowned violin made
by Nicolaus Gagliano Filius Alexandri fecit Neap. made in 1769.
